- Why would I want to do yoga?
Here are 6 good reasons:
- Yoga is safe. Practised properly and with awareness of your own physical limitations, it will not put undue
- strain on your heart, muscles and joints.
- You don't need any special equipment. Just comfortable loose clothing and an open mind. If you don't have your own mat, there are always mats available at the class.
- Yoga helps your respiratory system. Exercises designed to show you how to breathe deeply and easily will
- improve your physical and mental well being.
- This in turn helps improve your quality of sleep, so you will awaken feeling refreshed and energetic.
- Yoga improves the efficiency of bodily functions; aiding digestion, assimilation of nutrients and the elimination of toxins.
- Practising yoga focuses the mind and helps to channel energy effectively. Nervous stress and tension are negated and replaced with inner harmony and self awareness.

- What are the accessories you need when you do yoga?
- All you need for yoga is some loose fitting clothing which would allow your body to stretch without any effort or restraint . You will also need a slip proof yoga mat which you can borrow at the class. Other accessories such as blocks and straps are also provided...but eventually you may want to buy your own. But the thing you need above all is an open mind and willingness to embrace and enjoy the yoga experience.!

- I've never tried yoga before and I'm not flexible at all
- Anyone can start yoga anytime...and it is suitable for all ages! Your level of flexibility and fitness will definitely improve as you practise yoga on a regular basis. But coming to a class for the very first time is the first step.
As you learn the postures you will find the confidence to develop towards and beyond your limitations. - Back to top
- Can yoga help me lose weight?
- As part of a weight loss programme yoga can certainly be beneficial. There are exercises and postures that
can help you become leaner and more toned, provided you are willing to practise daily for at least 20 to 30
minutes. Yoga can help control appetite, regulate and bring down cholesterol levels in your blood and increase your metabolic rate. This in turn will burn more calories, resulting in effective weight loss. The most important
thing is to learn the right postures and practise regularly. - Back to top
- What are the benefits in pregnancy?
If you have already been practising yoga, then becoming pregnant is no reason to stop..quite the opposite in fact. There are certain postures that would not be suitable for your condition, but there are others that are invaluable for keeping limbs and joints supple and helping to prepare for the birth. You can take gentle exercise followed by relaxation or meditation right through to the last few weeks.

- What kind of yoga can I expect in this class?
- The style of yoga is known as Hatha Yoga. The postures, or asanas as they are known, comprise various positions : sitting , standing, forward and back bends, twists, inversions and lying down. The objective is to achieve a balance between movement and resistence, creating awareness of the joints, muscles and skin.
The postures are usually held for a few breaths before going smoothly into another.Students are encouraged to explore their limitations and to develop their abilities. But most importantly, they must enjoy themselves and leave feeling stretched and energised! The end of the 90 minute class always includes a session of relaxation!
